Audible Terrain: A Day of SoundCulture Events in the North Bay
10:15am: Aviary Commute
Turn an ordinary bus ride into an ornithological migration with Ann Wettrich. Participants should arrive promptly at 10:15 equipped with a concealed cassette player capable of broadcasting sound in a small area. Meet at the Transbay Terminal on the third level. Admission: $2.50 bus fare.
11am - 1pm: Fran Holland and the Dactyls of Frygia
Performance geared towards kids on an air-driven set of sounding devices. Bay Area Discovery Museum. Admission: $7 adults, $6 kids.
Experience installations by Krystyna Bobrowski, Dan Senn, and Landa Townsend, and an exhibtion of homemade instruments by Oliver Di Cicco, Fran Holland, Tom Nunn, and Peter Whitehead organized in conjunction with Experimental Musical Instruments. Falkirk Cultural Center. Admission: $2 donation.
noon: Eve of the Future
Kazue Mizushima (Japan) wires herself up to a network of acoustic string telephones that respond to a variety of body movements Falkirk Cultural Center copresented by Public Art Works
2pm: The Furtive Ear
Bernie Lubell (USA) creates a situation of voyeurism and eavesdropping within the intimate space of a pair of connected confessional booths. Town Center presented by Public Art Works
2:30pm: The Counting Game
Kathy Kennedy (Canada) employs a pirate radio broadcast and a choir of boombox-armed singers to fill a public place with the sounds of harmonious vocalizations. Town Center presented by Public Art Works
4pm: Acoustic Ecology
A discussion of of acoustic ecology by practicioners and critics including Hildegard Westerkamp. Headlands Center for the Arts. Admission: $5. Reservations recommended.
